Human Academy Takadanobaba Campus: Location, Access and What’s Nearby

Human Academy's Tokyo school is one floor of a building in Takadanobaba, with capacity for 2,440 students and two fixed class slots. What that means in practice.

Human Academy calls it the Tokyo campus. Everyone searching for it types Takadanobaba, because that is where it actually is — and because Takadanobaba is where a lot of Japanese language schools are.

Three things about this campus are worth knowing before you apply, and none of them appear on a comparison table.

It is a floor in a building, not a campus

The address is 169-0075 Tokyo, Shinjuku-ku, Takadanobaba 4-9-9, fifth floor.

The building is shared with a Japanese cram school. That is normal for language schools in central Tokyo, where land is expensive and most schools occupy a few floors of a commercial building rather than a campus with grounds.

It matters for one reason: if you are picturing a campus — a courtyard, a cafeteria, a library you can sit in between classes — this is not that. You get classrooms and an office. Plan where you will spend the gap between class and your next commitment, because the school is not it.

Capacity is 2,440 students

The school lists a capacity of 2,440.

That is large. A school this size runs many parallel classes, which has two consequences that pull in opposite directions.

In your favour: more classes means finer level separation. You are more likely to land in a class matched to where you actually are, rather than being the strongest or weakest person in a room of twenty.

Against you: more students per staff member for everything outside the classroom — university application advice, visa paperwork questions, the conversation where you explain that your situation is unusual. Ask during your enquiry how many students each advisor handles. A large school that answers that question clearly is a different proposition from one that does not.

Two class slots, and what they do to your week

Classes run 9:15 to 12:30 in the morning, or 13:30 to 16:45 in the afternoon.

You do not choose freely — placement depends on level and term — but the shape of your week follows from which one you get.

Morning class means your afternoon and evening are open. That suits restaurant and convenience store shifts, which is where most students on a work permit end up.

Afternoon class splits the day. You have the morning free and the evening free, with a block in the middle that is hard to schedule anything around. Some students prefer it. Many find it harder to hold a regular shift.

If part-time work is part of your plan, ask which slot you are likely to be assigned before you commit — not after. Student work permits carry a weekly hour cap, so the shifts you can actually take are constrained from both ends: by the cap, and by when you are in class.

The 2027 course list is not final yet

The school published two course lists: one for 2026, and one for 2027 marked as pending accreditation from the Ministry of Education. The 2027 list adds a one-year academic course and a job-preparation course that the 2026 list does not have.

The school states plainly that these are plans and the content may change.

If one of those new courses is the reason you are applying, that is a question to put to the school in writing before you pay anything. Not because anything is wrong — pending accreditation is a normal administrative stage — but because “we planned to run it” and “it is running” are different states, and you would be committing to the first one.

The school has been there since 1991

The Tokyo campus opened in October 1991.

Longevity is weak evidence of teaching quality and strong evidence of administrative stability: a school that has processed student visa paperwork for three decades has seen every variety of problem case. If your situation is unusual — a gap in your education history, an older applicant, a second attempt after a refusal — that experience is worth something concrete.

You are not choosing a school, you are choosing Takadanobaba

Takadanobaba has an unusual concentration of Japanese language schools, which is the real reason to think about this location rather than this school alone.

Two of the schools we cover run campuses in the same district. ISI operates two Takadanobaba campuses, split between academic-track and career-track programmes. Shibuya Gaigo Gakuin — despite the name, its campus is in Takadanobaba, not Shibuya — is also there.

This is worth more than it sounds. You can visit several schools in one trip. You can compare what the same neighbourhood costs across different operators. And if you end up somewhere else in the district, the commute, the part-time job you found, and the people you met all still work.

Pick the area first. Then pick from what is in it.

Before you enquire

Four questions this page cannot answer, which the school can:

  • Which class slot are students at my level usually assigned?
  • How many students does one advisor handle?
  • Is the 2027 course I want confirmed yet, and what happens to my application if it is not approved?
  • What is the current fee schedule for my intake, in writing?

Our Human Academy Japanese Language School profile lists the other campuses, course lengths and published fees alongside the other schools we cover.

Details on this page come from the school’s own campus page, linked below. Course lists and capacity figures change by academic year — check the source against the year you are applying for.
